COMPLAINTS about drivers revving their engines and playing loud music in a council car park have reduced since police gave the issue special attention.

The matter was reported to police in Haddington last month after neighbours of John Muir House grew frustrated at a number of incidents in Brewery Park car park.

However, Constable Lynn Black was pleased to say the issue had been looked at and there had been a marked improvement.

Police and East Lothian Council transportation department officials met with complainers to see what could be done to “alleviate” the problem.

Complaints had been made about “boy and girl racers” not just at weekends but throughout the week, with incidents often taking place in the early hours of the morning.

Loud music, loud talking and shouting, and causing a car to backfire were some of the issues reported.

PC Black added: “We decided to do patrols in both local police teams and security staff at John Muir House. So, if we saw vehicles at these times we just had a chat to each other.” The officer stressed drivers were not always behaving anti-socially but were simply made aware of the complaints made by neighbours.

The number of complaints have since reduced.

“Some regular vehicles have moved to another area in Haddington and we have not had any complaints,” she said.

No anti-social behaviour warnings were given, which can see a vehicle being seized.
