A SPECIALLY engraved quaich has been presented to a Haddington man who has spent more than half a century involved with the town.

Jan Wilson, chairwoman of the town’s community council, handed over the quaich to Jack Tully Jackson at the group’s final meeting before the summer recess.

Mrs Wilson praised the efforts of the 90-year-old and said: “The presentation was given as a token of the work that he has done for the community.

“We presented him with the quaich and got it specially inscribed to show our appreciation for all that he has done for Haddington and further afield as well.” Jack, from Knox Court, put on a show at the first-ever Haddington Festival, which took place in 1968, and has continued to be heavily involved with the annual event ever since.

And, although he admits he is slowing down a little, he is also working on putting together a video package of the Cranston family visit from this year’s festival.

He said: “We made a recording of the Cranston family and have a recording of the march they made.

“We’ve got that on tape and that is all still to be seen by the public.”
