INVESTIGATIONS into drugs issues in the Hardgate area of Haddington will continue, despite two arrests, say police.

The issue was raised at last month’s meeting of the town’s community council and then at the Community and Police Partnership (CAPP) meeting a week later.

Community beat officer PC Lynn Black confirmed it remained one of the three CAPP priorities for the Haddington and Lammermuir ward area for the month ahead.

A drugs search was carried out on the street on March 17, with another search also being carried out there three days later.

Two people were arrested and both cases have since been passed on to the Procurator Fiscal.

Meanwhile, pro-laser speed checks could be carried out in Haddington, as well as in the villages included in the ward area.

Concerns have also been repeatedly raised about problem parking in Haddington’s town centre.

That comes in the wake of police traffic wardens being scrapped earlier this year, with community leaders fearing that drivers would simply ignore the regulations in place following the wardens’ removal.

“Traffic issues are being raised with me about Haddington town centre but I can assure you all [police] teams at Haddington have been tasked to give as much attention as we can when not answering other calls,” said PC Black.

She urged members of the public to get in touch if they spotted people parking illegally and anyone wishing to do so should contact the police on 101 with information.
