BRIGHT sparks from Knox Academy’s computing department are happy to help relaunch Haddington Community Council’s website.

The group has been left without a website for a number of months following an email address and bank card change.

Members John Hamilton and Paul Darling have vowed to look into the issue but pupils from the town’s secondary school could still lend a hand.

Knox Academy business education teacher Robert Flood was at a recent community council meeting alongside the school’s Head Boy and Head Girl, Mark Robertson and Gemma Sandie.

He said: “I spoke to the computing department about the website.

“It all depends if you want an all-singing, all-dancing website or a more basic website.

“We have pupils who could do that but if you want to be able to see the website from a mobile phone it involves a lot more work.” If the pupils do get involved, it is likely to be ones in S5 or younger.

That decision was made in a bid to ensure there was some form of continuity in moving forward, with S6 pupils set to leave the school in a matter of weeks.

Mr Flood added: “[Pupils] could probably upload stuff and maintain it.” It is unclear whether the community council can access the information that was stored on the previous website or whether they will need to start from scratch.

If they can access information, that could allow them simply to transfer it to a new site.

Mr Hamilton, who runs the Lost Haddington Facebook page, thanked the school for the offer.

He added: “Plan A is to look to see what is still there and if we can run with it, then we will do so.

“Plan B we will turn to yourselves [the school].” Jan Wilson, the group’s chairwoman, also expressed her appreciation to the school in their effort to help.

She told members it was great to have the pupils at the meeting and to offer “a young view”.

She said: “It is great that Knox Academy want to support us. It is a great thing for the community.”
