THE managing director of a bus firm fears traffic problems in Haddington are only going to get worse, after one of his vehicles was unable to travel along Market Street.
The 121 Haddington to North Berwick service was forced to take a detour on Sunday afternoon due to a number of vehicles parked on the north side of the one street, ahead of the bus stop.
Managing director Ross Prentice told the Courier: “Cars could have squeezed through the gap but a bus could not.
“By the time the driver got there, there were three First buses in front of him.
“He realised he would be able to reverse back in front of the Victoria Inn.
“That was the best thing to do rather than sit and wait.” But it did mean the bus could not serve High Street and instead started the service from Court Street, shortly after 1.40pm.
Mr Prentice feared the problem could yet get worse with no traffic wardens in the county.
Police Scotland will enforce all parking issues. A spokesman confirmed this was the case but added that traffic wardens had not worked on a Sunday anyway.
He urged anyone who spotted any sort of parking issue to contact the police on 101.
