A FUNDRAISING campaign which could see the return of a fireworks display in Haddington has been launched.

Haddington Fireworks Committee is setting about raising about £6,500 to help pay for a display to take place on Whittingehame Drive on November 3.

An organised fireworks display has not been in Haddington for several years, but some locals are keen to see it return.

A sponsored walk is being organised for Sunday, September 9, leaving the town's Railway Hotel in Haddington at 11am and visiting Longniddry, Tranent, Macmerry and back to Haddington.

Alan Fortune, a member of the committee, said: "We are trying to get the fireworks back in Haddington as there haven't been fireworks for a few years now.

"It's just to try and have a bit of fun for the kids. We are going to try and have the kids design the cover for the programme that we are going to make."

Entry forms for the sponsored walk are available at Mike's Bikes, Animal Magic and Betty's of Haddington, all on High Street, Fortune Taxis on Station Yard and the Railway Hotel.
