THE 2012 Haddington Show, due to take place on Saturday, has been cancelled due to the condition of the ground following heavy rain in recent days.

Organisers of the biggest agricultural event on the East Lothian calendar - held at The Haugh, Westfield Farm, called off the show this morning.

Gill Tait, show secretary, told the Courier: "The field is absolutely sodden. It would be too dangerous to go ahead."

Rain last saw the show cancelled back in 2007. The cancellation comes despite several improvements which were made to the show field to prepare for the wet weather.

See next week's Courier for a full report.
