A HADDINGTON churchgoer who recently celebrated the success of a four-year fundraising campaign to build a church in Kenya is continuing her good work for impoverished communities there by staging a coffee morning tomorrow (Saturday).
Mary Wallace, a member of the congregation of Holy Trinity Church, raised more than £20,000 to erect St Peter's Church in Ihindu.
Mrs Wallace returned to Kenya in October to witness the official dedication of the completed church but has pledged to continue raising donations for the children's nursery now housed in the original metal church building, and the St Peter's Women's Guild, which distributes essential items to impoverished families in the Ihindu area.
"As the church is now completed and dedicated, I feel it is now more important to concentrate my efforts towards the children and people of the village and this coffee morning will be in aid of the nursery school," said Mary, who lives in Gifford.
"When I visited last year the teacher's wish was for a multiple swing for the children.
"The coffee morning will also be in aid of the Women's Guild Aid week held at the beginning of June each year, to assist in supporting the group before members distribute clothes and food to the very poorest in Ihindu."
All are welcome to come along and enjoy the coffee morning, taking place in the Trinity Centre, Church Street, between 10am and 12.30pm.
