Mr Punch raised more than £600 for the Lothians Branch of the Art Fund last Thursday.

He was helped by his unofficial biographer Alix Booth (pictured above), who gave an illlustrated lecture on the "History of Punch & Judy" at Haddington Town House.

An audience of more than 70 people were transfixed by the historical talk, which included puppets (all made by Alix) of Samuel Pepys, Queen Victoria, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Alex Salmond and, of course, Mr Punch, Judy and the Crocodile.

A vote of thanks was given by Sir Charles Fraser.

New members of the Art Fund are always needed locally – and their subscription helps the Art Fund buy acquisitions for Art Galleries and Museums. Anyone interested should contact Jane Stodart on 01620 892891.
