AN AREA has been cordoned off at Knox Academy after it was damaged by Storm Hector.

High winds battered East Lothian today as the storm swept through the county.

That included a long closure of the A1 after a lorry overturned, while at Gullane Golf Club preparations for the Scottish Open were disrupted as a marquee was destroyed by the winds.

And Knox Academy, Haddington's secondary school, has also suffered damage.

A post on the school's website from Fiona Robertson, East Lothian Council's head of education, reads: "Due to high winds, additional inspections were conducted by FES on the East Lothian secondary school estate.

"These inspections identified an issue with the block work at Knox Academy.

"As a precaution, the area was cordoned off and structural engineers are attending to advise remedial work.

"All processes are in place to address this matter promptly.

"It is anticipated, at this time, that the school will open as normal tomorrow (Friday).

"We will update further, in due course."

The school opened as normal on Friday morning.
