MORE than 180 homes on the outskirts of Haddington have been given the go-ahead by East Lothian Council.
The plans are part of the wider scheme at Letham Mains, where more than 800 new homes, as well as a new primary school, are to be built.
On the eastern side of the development, plans from CALA Homes East Ltd and Stuart Milne Homes (SMH) Central Scotland for 118 houses and 32 flats have been approved. The other set of proposals, for 34 new homes on the western side of the overall site, came from Taylor Wimpey East Scotland.
Ward councillor Tom Trotter was pleased to see progress being made.
He said: “People are crying out for houses in the area and this is long overdue.”
The CALA Homes East Ltd and SMH Central Scotland site does not include affordable housing, which will be created elsewhere within the overall Letham Mains site.
Access will come from West Road, with the site including 32 flats. The housing is split into a range of one to five bedroom properties. Two one-bedroom properties will be built, as well as 21 three-bedroom homes, 22 four-bedroom homes and 73 five-bedroom properties.
The Taylor Wimpey East Scotland side of the site will be made up of 20 detached houses, 11 semi-detached houses and three terraced homes.
