FED-UP residents on a small street have complained to the police about people urinating outside their homes.

Complaints about people leaving pubs in Haddington town centre and using Cross Lane, which links the town’s High Street to Market Street, as a toilet have been passed on to police.

Police Constable Lynn Black highlighted the issue at a meeting of the town’s community and police partnership.

She said: “We have had a couple of complaints.

“Before the last meeting, I was made aware of issues at around pub dispersal time with regards disturbances, urinating and shouting by adults.”

Cross Lane is home to young families who had got in touch with police about the problem.

The officer told the group that lighting in the street was “very poor” and it was an issue which had been raised before but it had been less of a problem in recent years.

Officers based in Haddington now intend to give the area extra coverage over the coming weeks.

Anyone caught urinating in the street can be given an on-the-spot fine of £50.
