POLICE are continuing to monitor complaints surrounding ‘boy racers’ parking in a town centre car park.

Reports were passed to police in Haddington of a group of drivers congregating in the long-stay car park next to the town’s Tesco store.

Constable Lynn Black, who chairs the Haddington and Lammermuir Community and Police Partnership (CAPP), said the issue had been highlighted to police by staff from a nearby retirement and sheltered housing complex.

She said there were complaints about loud music being played and excessive noise coming from the vehicles.

A similar issue regarding cars being parked at Brewery Park, near East Lothian Council’s John Muir House headquarters, and causing similar problems had also been passed to police.

Initially, it seemed like the problem had been solved but PC Black reported at the last CAPP meeting that there had been new complaints.

The officer will report back to CAPP members on June 12 when they meet in Haddington Town House.

PC Black said they had given both sites attention in recent weeks and there had been no further complaints made by members of the public.

She added: “We have spoken to them (the drivers) and moved them on from both car parks.”

“For now, we have not had any more formal complaints.”
