MOTORISTS could face delays on the A1 tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow, as a section of the road is being shut overnight for roadworks.

The eastbound carriageway of the road is being shut overnight between 8pm and 6am between Oaktree and Abbotsview junctions, near Haddington, for roadworks to take place.

The works got under way last night (Monday) and continues for two more nights.

A signed diversion route will be in place.

Eastbound traffic on the A1 will exit at Oaktree Junction to join the A199.

Vehicles will continue on the A199 to re-join the eastbound A1 at Abbotsview Junction.

The works, with a value of around £225,000, will benefit about 6,000 vehicles which use this stretch of the A1 each day, said operators Amey.

Th works will improve the condition of the carriageway and associated verges, and reduce the need for future, more extensive, maintenance.
