SOME of the highlights of this year’s Dunbar Civic Week have been announced ahead of the official programme unveiled.

And Amy Pirie has been namd as this year’s Dunbar Civic Week Queen.

Civic Week gets under way on June 13, with a full schedule of events revealed tomorrow (Saturday).

Sue Anderson, one of the organisers, promised another action-packed week, with more than 50 events lined up.

She said: “The bit that makes us feel good is that Civic Week has established itself in the community’s mind. They come to us with great ideas.

“We put on the fun day and we love doing that but the community does the rest and we just help promote it.” Among the events already confirmed is the return of the Dunbar Amazing Film Talent Awards (DAFTAs).

Dunbar Film Society is organising the event and committee member Tadg Farrington was hoping for another successful year. He said films could be created on anything from a camera, tablet or phone to an iPod.

All submitted films must be set in or have a connection with Dunbar and be between two and five minutes long.

The film will be judged in three age categories: under-12, 12-16 years and over 16, with all entries to be in by the end of the opening day of Civic Week.

The red carpet will be rolled out at Hallhill Healthy Living Centre on June 20 when the winners are announced. Short film finalists will have their films screened first.

One of the new events for 2015 is the introduction of the Great Dunbar Bake-Off.

A lucky judging panel will sample a number of cakes, with three categories at the Belhaven Brewery Fun Day, which takes place at Lauderdale Park on the opening day.

Juniors (P7 and under), teens (S1-S6) and seniors (over-18s) will be out to wow the judges with their delicious cakes.

Also appearing at the fun day will be local band Damson Jam, a theatre show and a magician; there will also be children’s races, storytelling and face painting.

The following day, Coast 2 Coast Surf Sprints and Crossfit East Rocks will take to Belhaven Beach.

Stand-up paddle races, swimming race and surf paddle races will all be held, as well as activities on dry land.

And on June 18, Anya, Gary and Kevin – the former stars of the Singing Kettle – will arrive in town with their own special show. They will bring songs and silliness with a Scottish flavour to the Strawberry Barn.

While on June 19, it is the Foxlake Furious Five Friday challenge. Ten local groups are invited to take part, with a team of five taking on one event each.

The winners then receive 24 tickets for Foxfall, worth about £500.
