VANDALS have caused thousands of pounds of damage to boats used by Dunbar Sea Cadets.

The rigid inflatable boats were slashed while in storage at their unit on Bayswell Road, over the weekend.

It is estimated the cost to the charity could be up to £15,000 to repair or replace the damaged boats.

Police are appealing for witnesses to catch the culprits who they say have ruined the summer for youngsters.

A police spokesperson said: "This was an intentional act which will deny local young people the opportunity of having fun and learning on the water, this summer."

The boats were damaged sometime between 1pm on Friday, April 3, and 5pm yesterday (Sunday).

Dunbar Sea Cadets are the oldest nautical charity in the United Kingdom.
