FOXLAKE Adventures, Scotland’s first cable wakeboarding park, is in the running for a prestigious award.

The company, based just outside Dunbar, has been named as a finalist at the first-ever Sports Business Innovation Awards, which take place in Glasgow on March 11.

The awards, run by Sporting Chance Initiative (SCI), will recognise and reward the very best and most innovative businesses and individuals in the Scottish sport industry at Glasgow Science Centre.

Foxlake Adventures has been shortlisted in the ‘best new product or service’ category.

The award is for the Scottish small or medium-sized business which has, in the last three years, developed and launched the best new sports or physical activity-related product or service.

Penny Lochhead, from Foxlake Adventures, said: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award.

“Our inclusive and friendly atmosphere means that we provide full access to all abilities and backgrounds, with an exciting mix of activities which appeal to the whole family unit.

“We are the UK’s only wakepark social enterprise, and are delighted to have been recognised as one of the best new sports-related products or services in Scotland.” Foxlake Adventures was established in July 2012 by a group of social entrepreneurs who wanted to create a unique outdoor adventure facility in their community.

Until 2012, cable wakeboarding did not exist in Scotland but Foxlake Adventures has now introduced more than 10,000 people to it.

Its FoxFall ropes course, which is constructed entirely over water, is not only unique to Scotland but to the whole of the UK and is described as a place where “GoApe meets Total Wipeout”.

The company is now looking to grow its concept and is in advanced discussions with two local authorities and partner agencies to replicate its social enterprise.
