MORE than £1,000 has been raised after friends and family of David Armstrong braved near freezing temperatures on the first day of 2015.

David, 15, was killed alongside friends Jenna Barbour and Josh Stewart on November 25, 2013, in a car crash on Limetree Walk, near Tyninghame.

Since then, friends and family have regularly held events to raise money for the David Armstrong Memorial Fund.

His mum Andrea was among 10 brave souls who pulled on special t-shirts and took the plunge off Dunbar on January 1.

She said: “It was me, my daughter Gemma and a few family and friends [who took part].

“I’ve not got a total yet but it is looking like being just over £1,000; it was excellent.” Members of David’s family also took part in the event last year and were again there on New Year’s Day 2015.

Andrea said: “Last year I cannot even remember doing it.

“I remember walking down off Castle Street and then it is a blank.

“This year, I remember it and being very nervous at the time. My daughter grabbed me and we went back in and had a wee swim.

“It was not too bad – it is more the thought of it.

“David would have been the very first one in there. He was well-known for jumping in the sea and the harbour.” The Dunbar Dip looks like becoming a yearly tradition for the family, who are keen to remember David and raise money for good causes in the town.

Already, money from the fund has been donated to teenage athlete Maria Lyle to help her achieve her goals.
