THIEVES smashed a window to steal a till from a shop opposite Dunbar Grammar School – but it had no money in it at the time.

PC Gavin Ross said Looks on Summerfield Road was broken into at about 3am on October 14.

A window at the store was smashed, people entered, and stole the till.

However, police later confirmed that there was no money in the till, which was itself valued at £200.

On the same night, the premises of outdoor gear/sports and various goods shops Smugglers Cave, on the town’s High Street, were similarly broken into and various items were stolen.

Enquiries into both incidents are ongoing and anyone with information should contact the police on 101.

Meanwhile, police gave members of Dunbar’s community council an update on a number of crime-related issues at the group’s meeting recently.

Among them was damage to items at Belhaven Hill School. Three benches were damaged and a window smashed between August 31 and September 19.

Meanwhile, a stone step and metal railing were vandalised at the rear of Dunbar’s Town House between October 3 and 7. Enquiries are ongoing, with CCTV being used to try to trace those responsible.

There were three cases of vandalism to cars on Cedar Street early last month.
