A HOTEL damaged in a fire is back open for business.

Two fire engines attended from Haddington, alongside crews from Dunbar and East Linton, at the Bayswell Park Hotel, Dunbar, on the night of July 31.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said there was “quite substantial damage” to the kitchen and the bedroom above on the first floor.

The hotel, which has 19 rooms, was safely evacuated, with nobody needing rescued by the firefighters during the 8.40pm incident.

The crews used four breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the flames before using cutting equipment to ensure there was no further spread of fire.

Owner Simon Flame said there had been an electrical fire in the kitchen behind some panelling.

He said: “Hotel staff and management reacted promptly to try to address it and called out the fire service, who arrived really quickly and did an excellent job limiting the impact.” Alternative accommodation was found for guests on the Thursday night.

The hotel was back to normal, added Mr Flame, other than the restaurant, which would require a refit.
