DUNBAR will be home to the Community Woodlands Association Conference and AGM.

The CWA Conference will be held on August 23 and 24 at the Bleachingfield Centre.

The theme of the conference is ‘Making the connections’, and will be focusing on how community woodlands connect with different sections of the communities they serve, and how they link up the economic, social and environmental benefits they produce.

Most of all, the conference is about connecting up those who manage Scotland’s community woods.

Previously, the event has been held in Skye and the Scottish Borders.

Isobel Knox, from Dunbar Community Woodlands, was delighted to see the event held in the town, in the 100th year since John Muir’s death.

She said: “There will be delegates from all over Scotland and about 200 members of the CWA.

“We’ve got our community woodland in Dunbar and there are others the length and breadth of the country.

“It tends to be more rural but there are urban woodlands as well from Dunnet Head to Argyll and the Highlands.” Ms Knox was looking forward to the event, which will see a conference dinner and a ceilidh on the Saturday at Hallhill.

She added: “There will be about 80 delegates and they will be using bed and breakfasts and hotel, so it is good economically for the town.” For more information go to www.communitywoods.org
