DUNBAR and North Berwick have come under scrutiny from Beautiful Scotland judges after they visited the two towns last week.

Judges inspected both towns on Monday, with Beautiful Scotland awards set to be announced next month.

Mary Young, from Dunbar In Bloom, was one of those showing judges around the town.

She said: “It was super, the judges seemed to be quite impressed with Dunbar.

“There were lots of good comments and the sun was shining, which makes all the difference.

“Now, we have to wait until September.” Volunteers have been working hard in the town over a number of months to ensure Dunbar was horticulturally sparkling for the visit.

Judges were shown a number of different areas, including the town’s railway station, swimming pool, Belhaven Community Garden and Floors Terrace, to showcase the greenery and flowers on display.

Meanwhile, those involved with the North Berwick In Bloom efforts were pleased with how the day’s judging had gone.

Anne Turgoose, from North Berwick In Bloom, said: “The town looked good thanks to the efforts of the In Bloom volunteers, Rotary, ELC Landscape and Countryside colleagues and the community more generally.

“I think In Bloom will be having a week off gardening before we start again on next year’s horticultural projects!” Both towns now face an anxious wait, before the winners are revealed at a ceremony in Dundee on September 5.
