A NEW group will run the cafe in Dunbar’s Bleachingfield Centre after Dunbar Community Kitchen (DCK) confirmed it would not be running the facility after the start of September.

Last week, candidates looking to “develop and deliver” the cafe were invited to come forward.

Currently, the facility is being run by DCK but the contract for the facility, on the town’s Countess Crescent, expires at the start of September.

East Lothian Council owns the building and said: “This is an exciting opportunity to lease the centre’s cafe to develop and deliver this service.” Candidates need to complete an application to lease form along with a business plan by noon next Monday (July 28), which should then be returned to Community Learning and Development in Musselburgh.

A council spokeswoman said: “[The Bleachingfield Centre] is a well-used resource for a wide range of community groups and houses a community centre, with a newly formed management committee, library and customer services.

“There is the opportunity for the cafe to help with community centre fundraising events and cafe opening hours will need to reflect the usage by centre users.

“The cafe will aim to reflect community needs in terms of menu and pricing.

“East Lothian Council welcomes offers for the annual rental and contribution to utility costs to provide a cafe service at Bleachingfield Centre, Dunbar.”
