A BENCH in memory of two teenagers tragically killed in a car crash last year has been placed on Dunbar High Street.

Josh Stewart and David Armstrong, along with Jenna Barbour, were killed during the accident on Limetree Walk, near Tyningame, on November 25.

Now, a bench in memory of the two teenagers has been placed near the former Abbeylands Church - it features their photographs and describes them as ' forever young, forever friends.' Josh’s mum, Susan Stewart, from Stenton, said the location had particular significance to both her and David’s mum, Andrea Kelly.

“It was somewhere where the boys used to meet,” she said. “That was one of the reasons we decided to put it there.” Wood for the bench was donated by Stewart Brown, who was David’s football coach, while Alan McGovern, a family friend, created the bench.

Andrea’s nephew James Kelly gave a reading when the bench was put in place while David’s sister Gemma also released balloons.

Friends Jack Boyd and Calvin Conroy also gave short speeches and Andrea said the spot was somewhere David regularly sat.

She said: “I wanted to put up a bench and knew Josh sat up there as well.

“There was originally a bench there but it disappeared so we got one put up there.” The bench was put in place last Friday and is just part of the tributes planned for the three teenagers.

In May, Susan told the Courier she was planning a memorial garden at the accident site.

That included donations from Dunbar Garden Centre and Asda and 70 wooden hearts.

This week, she said: “It’s still going ahead.

“We are just trying to get everything together and that will be going ahead in the next two or three weeks probably.” Each of the wooden hearts will be varnished, with friends and family of Josh, 16, Jenna, 18, and 15-year-old David able to write messages on them.

Andrea also plans to remember David with a football memorial cup being played next month.

He had recently taken up rugby but his mum said most of his life was about football.

Similarly, an event is also being planned for September 13 at the town’s harbour.

Andrea, from Writers Court, was keen to have bands playing and also an open mic event for the youngsters.

Meanwhile, pupils and staff at Dunbar Grammar School, where Josh, David and Jenna had attended, held a celebration service.

The event was planned by the students and took the form of an affectionate look back over the lives of the three young people.

An apple tree was also planted in the school’s court yard, near the recreation rooms.
