DUNBAR’s lifeboat crew rescued a man from right in front of their own base when he became trapped in a container after suffering a severe back injury.
The dredging ship Forth Reclaimer was carrying out work in the harbour on Tuesday lunchtime when one of the crew suffered a serious back injury.
As a result he was trapped in a container on the barge and was unable to move.
The incident took place right in front of the lifeboat station so crew members saw what was going on and informed the Coastguard, who requested the lifeboat go to the man’s aid.
The inshore lifeboat was launched, while an ambulance and a medical flying squad were also mobilised due to the nature of the man’s injury.
The lifeboat crew were able to stabilise the man and get him out of the container and onto the lifeboat before ferrying him back to dry land.
He was then taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he treated and discharged later that day.
