SCOTLAND’S only wakeboarding park has been given nearly 70,000 reasons to be happy.

Foxlake Adventures, west of Dunbar, is one of 45 projects across the country to benefit from a share of £2.4 million courtesy of the Scottish Government.

The money - totalling £69,375 - comes from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund and will be used to help create new changing facilities.

Penny Lochhead, director of Foxlake Adventures, said: “We have an ethos of developing young people in sport, and quality facilities and experiences go together.

“To achieve permanent new changing facilities and provide a fully inclusive provision on site will enable us to provide even more young people and adults in our community with opportunities to take up and retain a healthy and physically active outdoor lifestyle.

“We are delighted to have received this grant towards our new changing facilities as part of the legacy from Glasgow 2014 and look forward to playing our part in the long lasting legacy of the games.” The changing facilities could be built later this year, depending on other funding applications.

It is hoped the new changing area, which would be heated and split into male and female, will allow Foxlake to run wakeboarding sessions throughout more of the year.

Grants of up to £100,000 are available to help build or upgrade local facilities such as new bike or skate parks, outdoor adventure facilities, walking routes or new projects within school estates.
