TWENTY extra car parking spaces have been created near Dunbar Railway Station.
The site, on Countess Road, was previously overgrown with long grass, weeds and bushes.
However, that has now changed to create the spaces, which are separated by log dividers.
The announcement pleased ward councillor Michael Veitch.
He hoped it would also take the strain off the street when it came to on-street parking.
“The residents of Countess Road are quite rightly aggrieved at their street having long been a default car park for the railway station, while commuters are fed up of having to battle to get a space on surrounding streets because of the ludicrously expensive station car park,” said the councillor.
“By taking this derelict piece of land and building a new car off-street car park, I hope we have found a win-win solution for residents and commuters alike.
“Ultimately, it remains my hope that the old Foggo’s Yard next to the existing station car park can be developed and the current charging dropped, to bring Dunbar station into line with other East Lothian stations.”
