THE inaugural Dunbar's Wee Festival of Words will welcome critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Alex Cornish to its line-up today (Monday).

Alex, who lives in Dunbar, will launch his fourth album later in 2013 and has enjoyed international success since releasing his debut album, 'Until the Traffic Stops', in 2007.

A second album, 'Call Back', followed in 2010.

Alex will be performing songs from his third album, 'No Shore', during his festival performance.

Alex said: "I am very excited about being involved and helping to promote the town. "Dunbar has a fantastic artistic community. My manager, from London, is always telling me how he has met artistic or music industry people who say, 'Oh yeah, I am from Dunbar'.

"It has a rich creative community and I think it's important for us to put events like this on. We should be proud of where we live and share with other people the creative work we do here.

"No Shore was heavily influenced by Dunbar. I took pictures from the harbour and around town and used them for the album artwork. "My songs often start as poems, they describe the environment I am in and during the performance at the Wee Festival of Words I will be playing some of the songs from my third album and describing how this town has influenced my music." Festival organiser Hannah Lavery said: "I have known Alex for some time and I am delighted that we can welcome him to perform at the inaugural Wee Festival of Words.

"Alex is a superb musician and an excellent example of the artistic quality we have in Dunbar." Alex performs as part of the festival's Monday evening Promenade event, with tickets, costing 4 - and full details of the line-up - available at www.dunbarliteraryfestival.com The festival forms part of this year's Dunbar Civic Week programme.
