A DUNBAR-based web designer has officially launched a website aimed at helping daytrippers and travellers select the right B&B in the UK.

Duncan Weddell, of Roxburghe Court, is the brains behind "Bed and Breakfast Map" - a visual directory that plots the various locations of local bed and breakfasts. The useful website is already attracting more than 20,000 unique visitors per month.

The 33-year-old, originally from Gifford, developed the website after he discovered that choosing a B&B could be a laborious task because rarely was the location of the B&B charted on a map.

And so bedandbreakfastmap.co.uk - a searchable map of more than 20,000 UK bed and breakfast lodgings - was created.

Mr Weddell said his unique website would make finding lodgings easier.

'The site was designed to make it simpler to find a B&B,' he said. 'No other website can provide what we do; there are lots of online directories but there are no map-based ones.'

Also keen to promote British holiday-making, a "Hidden Gems" travel guide of unique places to visit in the UK also features on his site.

The guide was compiled through a competition, in which entrants were asked to describe their favourite British hideaway in 50 words.

Hidden Gems provides information on the best local attractions to visit in a given area, and where to find accommodation.
