HOSES and breathing apparatus had to be used to tackle a fire at Dunbar Cement Plant on Monday evening.
Firefighters from the town were joined by colleagues from East Linton and Edinburgh’s McDonald Road following reports of a fire within the kiln house.
Electricity to the kiln house was isolated while the crews were in attendance, having received a call at about 5.05pm. Nobody was injured in the incident.
A spokeswoman for operators Tarmac confirmed “a small incident took place at the company’s cement plant”.
She said: “A fault with an electrical panel in the kiln building resulted in a small fire which was quickly contained and dealt with by Tarmac staff on site. The incident was over within an hour.
“The fire service attended to ensure the area was made safe and then handed back to Tarmac staff.”
