EAST Lothian’s premier outdoor adventure centre has scooped a national award – for the second time.

Foxlake Adventures, between West Barns and East Linton, was celebrating at the Scottish Thistle Awards National Final last Thursday evening.

The awards, Scottish tourism’s equivalent of the Oscars, attracted the best of Scotland’s tourist attractions to Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre.

James Barbour and Callum Mark of Foxlake took home the Best Outdoor/Adventure Experience, after first winning the prize in 2016.

Judges were impressed by Foxlake’s commitment to ensuring its strong core values echoed throughout staff training, business growth and customer service – and praised the attraction for delivering an “excellent customer experience”.

Mr Barbour, director of Foxlake, told the Courier: “We were initially delighted to have won the regional finals, so to come away from the event having won the national final is a fantastic achievement.

“We have an extremely committed and hard-working team at Foxlake and for our service delivery to be recognised at a national level is a testament to the endeavour shown by the entire team.

“We are passionate about providing the very best in customer service delivery and to be recognised alongside some of the country’s leading tourism businesses is a great honour.”

Foxlake Adventures opened in 2012 as Scotland’s first wakeboard park.

Since then it has grown to include segways, a ziptrail and even an assault course above Foxlake.

Mr Barbour put the success of the facility down to “hard work”.

He said: “It is hard work by all the team, from the junior members of staff right through to the senior members of staff, but especially out fantastic bunch of instructors, who do an amazing job.”

The awards ceremony saw 16 individuals, businesses and events honoured for their innovation, excellence and success in the hospitality and tourism sector.

The attraction’s success was also noted in the Scottish Parliament.

East Lothian MSP Iain Gray lodged a motion and congratulated the team for their “stunning success”.

He said: “Foxlake has established itself as a leading visitor attraction, not only in East Lothian but across the east of Scotland.

“This is well-deserved recognition for all the hard work that the management and staff have put in over the last few years.

“I congratulate the whole team on winning the award and wish them continued success for the future.”
