A SCHOOLBOY has made his acting debut in one of the biggest films of the year.
Lewis Dean features in recently released Trainspotting 2, starring Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle.
The 11-year-old from Dunbar can be spotted in the movie playing football in a flashback scene to the 1970s.
Proud mum Karen Bryce told the Courier: “When Lewis got selected for Trainspotting 2, he was away filming for five hours.
“When he came back home, he was hyperactive and he wanted to go back to drama classes. He just loved the whole experience.
“The fact he met Danny Boyle, who directed the film, and then sees him on television, he just gets excited about the whole thing.”
The film reunites characters such as Renton, Spud and Begbie from the classic original movie, which was released more than 20 years ago.
Lewis has now had a chance to watch the original but would not be able to get into a cinema to see it because of his age.
Karen said: “Lewis and his brother Brandon were having a laugh about it and saying they would get a big coat and one could sit on the other’s shoulders to get in!
“Lewis is desperate to see it and he asked if he could watch the first Trainspotting.
“They get taught about drugs at school and he watched the first Trainspotting and loved it.”
Older brother Brandon, 12, is also an actor in the making, having appeared in the popular television series Outlander, which was partly filmed in East Lothian.
Karen said: “We previously lived in Paisley and my two boys would go to drama classes just as a confidence boost.
“I was such a shy girl at school and I joined them up with a drama agency and they went and did that.
“When we came to Dunbar I asked if they wanted to join up with drama classes at the Brunton and they said no.”
However, the experience of appearing in Trainspotting has changed Lewis’s mind and he is set to get back to treading the boards.

The Dunbar Primary School pupil was selected for the film in May and the filming took place in early July.
Karen, of Meikle Park Road, has been to the cinema to see Trainspotting 2 and added: “I felt like shouting out ‘that’s my wee boy’.”
