SANTA came early for one East Lothian family this year, after a new arrival gave them an early wake-up call.

Mum Kelly Brunton’s waters broke in the first minutes of Christmas Day as she and husband Euan were at home in Dunbar.

And they were determined their three-year-old daughter Kahlan would not miss out, waking her at 2am on Christmas Day so she could open her presents before mum Kelly went to hospital.

Kelly, 33, and Euan, 37, of Summerfield Road, left for Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 7.30am and welcomed new son Tristan into the world at 4.40pm.

Weighing in at 8lb and 13oz, Tristan’s arrival was not too much of a surprise – he was due on Christmas Eve.

Kelly said: “My waters broke at midnight and since we were up we woke Kahlan to make sure she had her Christmas early before we went to the hospital. It wasn’t what I had planned for Christmas Day and it was a long labour but we are thrilled and Kahlan is looking forward to having her new little brother home.”

The first baby born on Christmas Day in the Lothians arrived in the early hours of the morning at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Noel Skinner, whose mum Samantha lives in Edinburgh, arrived at 12.55am.

Scotland’s first Christmas baby of 2016 did not waste any time making her arrival.

Ailie Urquhart was born in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital at 12.08am, much to the delight of parents Lisa and Andrew from Banchory.
