A SEAL pup made its way up a country park path after it became stranded by the tide.

Stunned surfers found the pup at least 60 metres along the path, leading to a car park, at John Muir Country Park, by Dunbar.

The Scottish SPCA were called in and are now feeding the underweight pup a diet of fish soup.

Murray Glass, of Dunbar Pet Food Ltd, captured the unusual sight on camera, at the park, on Saturday.

He said: "The pup was on a path known locally as Carrot Road and had travelled 50 to 60 metres up it.

"There is an inlet further down that it may have swum up at high tide and then as the tide went out its continued up the sandy path."

The seal pup was taken to the SSPCA wildlife centre.

Colin Sneddon, manager, said it was recovering well from its trek.

He said: "The seal pup is doing well. He is underweight but we’ve put him on a diet of fish soup and should go onto whole fish soon.

"Once the pup is feeding himself we will move him to an outdoor pool and mix him with other seals of a similar size.

"Once he has reached a weight of at least 30kg and the weather is suitable we will release him into the wild, this will be in about two months."
