COUNTY Olympic silver medallist Dan Wallace said the Rio Games were an “amazing” experience.

The swimming star gave a talk to pupils at Belhaven Hill Primary School in Dunbar after returning from Brazil with silver in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

He said: “I enjoyed every day in Rio. It’s a beautiful place and the people are wonderful. Copacabana Beach was just as amazing at it looks on the TV.

“The buzz around the camp was fantastic. I met Usain Bolt, Andy Murray, [Rafael] Nadal and Tony Parker [French basketball star].

“My mum stayed nearby with a welcoming local couple.

“It was amazing winning the silver medal with my mum and sister in the crowd, but you’re in a bit of an Olympic bubble so you don’t realise what the reaction is at home.”

The 23-year-old gave the talk at the school, where his mum Tanya is the head matron and younger sister Lilly is a pupil.

He told pupils about his training regime and how he got involved in the sport at the age of 14.

He added: “I was 14 when I realised that swimming was my dream and something I wanted to commit to.

“At school I played as many sports as possible – rugby, football, athletics – and every summer I got to go to different sports camps. You can do whatever you want and should follow your dreams Belhaven Hill is hosting an open morning next Saturday (October 15), between 10.15am and 12.30pm.
