GULLANE’S former day care centre could be transformed into housing under plans put forward by a developer in the village.

Proposals for the site, which would see the existing single-storey timber-clad day centre building removed, highlight the intention to change the location into one house with two additional flats.

The plans, put forward by CN Homes (Scotland) Ltd, based on Middleshot Road, are currently being considered by East Lothian Council’s planning department.

Already, a number of documents showing how the building, on East Links Road, could look have been submitted.

Similarly, a six-page design statement is with planners.

It concludes: “It is our client’s intention to develop this council-owned site in a low-density, high-quality manner which is sympathetic and compatible to the area, using traditional and contemporary materials, components and detailing whilst generally adhering to the main principles of the development guidelines produced for the site.” Gullane Day Centre moved to Hamilton Road in December 2013 as part of a purpose-built facility, including a new home for the local GP practice.

A five-page document on the council’s website highlights planning permission is already in place for the building to be used in a variety of ways, including a creche, museum or public workshops.

It adds: “In terms of redevelopment, the planning department has advised a range of uses would be considered, including residential.”
