EAST Linton’s Gala Queen will be following in her mum’s footsteps, as part of a Gala Court which includes three sets of siblings.

Lorel Hawthorn-Buchanan will be crowned the village’s Gala Queen on June 13, following in the footsteps of her mum Rebecca Hawthorn-Buchanan, who was East Linton Gala Queen in 1992.

There were initially fears that the gala would not be able to be held this year due to a lack of volunteers, but last month organisers announced that it had been saved.

The draw for East Linton Gala’s ‘Linton Queen’ was made at a special gala court selection evening recently.

More than 100 members of the public turned up and were entertained by singers from East Linton Drama Group, performing some of their favourite tunes from Bugsy Malone.

Also available were refreshments, home baking, prize raffle, games and a visual display of past gala photos.

Supporting Lorel on Gala Day will be: Ladies-in Waiting: Erin Bell and Martha Macdonald; Consort: Oliver Govan; Herald: Marco Horn; Trumpeter: Aaron Rollo; Flower Girls: Evie Smith and Rachel Barker; Crown Bearer: Matt Aitken; Sceptre Bearer: Lochie Murray; Page Boys: Luca Horn and Glen Rollo; Fairies: Saidee Brunton, Lara Burke, Erin Clark, Marnie Erskine, Maia Hewlett, Sarah Murray, Emma Penny, Skye Savage, Francesca White and Honor Whitson.

A spokeswoman for the Gala said: “This year, we have three sets of siblings on the Gala Court, something no one on the committee can remember ever happening before.

“This year’s programme entry was won by East Linton Primary P7 pupil Leah Melrose with her excellent cover for this year’s theme of ‘Films’.” The gala is looking for donations of raffle prizes from businesses for its ‘Big Gala Raffle’ and the Wheel of Fortune, as well as advertisers for this year’s programme.
