PostCode Lottery presenter Angus Purden hands over cheques to Janette and Ron Gough.

A LONGNIDDRY street has just become a whole lot richer after its postcode won three households a total of £50,000 in Saturday's People's Postcode Lottery draw.

Residents on the village's Dean Park, which had a winning postcode of EH32 0QR, were visited by TV presenter and People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Angus Purden, who surprised the lucky winners with their cheques.

Janette Gough and husband Ron, who play with two tickets, won £20,000.

"It's our 50th wedding anniversary in January so we are going to use the money

to celebrate," said Janette. "My family live out in New Zealand and we haven't seen them since 2004. A trip out there to celebrate with everyone together would be absolutely fantastic."

Playing with one ticket, Patricia Haddow was "very surprised" when she saw her cheque for £10,000 being revealed by Angus.

Husband Jim said: "We signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery when it first started as we liked the idea that by playing, we were also supporting charities here in Scotland. We are going to have a good think about how to spend the money, but we might take a trip somewhere hot and sunny!"

A third resident of Dean Park, who also plays with two tickets but has not been named, also won £20,000.

The Longniddry winners, as well as collecting prizes, have in turn supported local charities. As a charity lottery, 40p from every £2 spent on the People's Postcode Lottery tickets goes to good causes.

Tranent's Playtime Playgroup, for instance, received more than £1,500 in funding from People's Postcode Lottery, through grant-giving body People's Postcode Trust, allowing them to purchase badly needed new play equipment for the children attending the pre-school playgroup.

Angus said: "The funding awarded to these type of projects is all down to the players of the People's Postcode Lottery. As well as having a chance to win cash prizes every single day, they are helping support so many fantastic charities. I'd like to say a huge thank you to the players of the People's Postcode Lottery."

For £10 per month, every playing ticket is entered into four £10,000 street prizes with every ticket in the full winning postcode getting £10,000.

One postcode shares £100,000 in the monthly draw, with one ticket winning the keys to a BMW 1 Series. Four times a year, players in one lucky postcode share a minimum of £1 million in one of the Postcode Million draws.
