A WOMAN celebrating 10 years of being clear of cancer has completed a 72-mile challenge to raise almost £3,000 for two charities.

Juliette Camburn completed the gruelling one-day challenge late last month, which saw her run alone for 40 miles along the Great Glen Way from Inverness to Fort Augustus after setting off at 6am.

She then donned her bicycle helmet and pedalled a further 32 miles along the canal tow path to Fort William.

The 38-year-old reached the finish line at 5.15pm – almost 12 hours after setting off.

A tired Juliette, who was raising money for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres and Myeloma UK, said: “I can’t believe I managed it, but despite the sore muscles I’m so pleased to have completed this challenge and to have raised so much money for these important charities, especially Maggie’s, who helped me so much when I needed care and support.” Ten years ago Juliette, who grew up in Drem and went to North Berwick High School, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

She underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The treatment was successful and she also received support from Maggie’s, which has seven centres across Scotland.

Currently, Juliette’s uncle John is being treated for Myeloma and so Juliette, who now lives in Stirling, wanted to help raise money for both charities at once.

The route she took followed the Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike route through the Great Glen.

The challenge did not go ahead this year but Juliette decided to keep to her plan and run and bike the route solo, with support along the way from a very proud family.

So far, Juliette, who works for Keep Scotland Beautiful, has raised more than £1,900 for Maggie’s and more than £1,000 for Myeloma UK.

To celebrate her achievement, and despite her tired legs, Juliette is now planning a ceilidh for friends, family and colleagues where she hopes a little more money can be raised to boost her funds for these good causes.
