MUM Alison McLeod is raising money to say thank you to medical staff who helped her daughter, who underwent complex brain surgery.

Alison and friend Gillian Archibald will take part in the Great North Run next month to raise cash for charity for the second year in a row.

And this time the two pals have pledged all the money raised will be donated to Edinburgh Sick Kids Friends Foundation.

Alison’s daughter Samantha, 12, underwent surgery two years ago to try and cure her epilepsy, which she has had since birth.

She still regularly attends Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital for ongoing treatment and check-ups.

The family, who live in Longniddry, have seen an improvement in Samantha’s condition since the operation and Alison took part in the run last year to raise money as a thank you.

This year she and friend Gillian are both preparing for the run, which is held in Newcastle on Sunday, September 13.

And they are hosting additional fundraising events, with a coffee morning being held in Longniddry Church Hall tomorrow (Saturday), between 10am and noon.

The coffee morning will feature stalls, raffles and a tombola, as well as fun for youngsters.

Everyone is invited to go along.
