Longniddry and District Rotary Club has installed its first female president.

Professor Aileen Lothian. is currently director of the Young SET Ambassadors at Edinburgh Napier University – involved in designing, developing and delivering energy and renewables, recycling and reducing carbon emissions, wind power and biofuel programmes, which involves encouraging and educating young children about exploring and understanding the world of science, engineering and technology.

She is also a karate black belt and was in the Scottish judo team, as well as playing basketball and hockey for Scotland.

Past president Keith Forrester handed over the presidential chain of office to Prof Lothian at the club’s handover dinner at Craigielaw Golf Club.

The club holds its meetings there every Thursday evening at 7pm.
