STUDENTS from the Chippendale International School of Furniture have been showing off some of their pieces at the Scottish Parliament.

The school, near Gifford, is celebrating its 20th year as a leading furniture-making and design school.

Students held a graduate exhibition of some of their pieces in Edinburgh, with praise from not only Iain Gray, East Lothian MSP, but also Tricia Marwick MSP, the Parliament’s Presiding Officer.

Mr Gray told the Courier: “It was a pleasure to welcome [principal] Anselm Fraser and his students to the Scottish Parliament to exhibit some of their pieces.

“The Chippendale School is another great local institution, offering furniture designers a unique opportunity to learn the best of traditional and modern furniture-making in a beautiful East Lothian setting.” The school runs an intensive nine-month course, providing the equivalent of a three-year course in less than a year.

It also attracts students from across the globe, who come to study at the school.

Mr Gray added: “The school has established an excellent reputation which, judging by the many positive comments I heard from Parliamentary colleagues, has been further enhanced by this display.

“I wish Anselm and his colleagues continued success and will certainly welcome them back to Holyrood for another exhibition whenever they want to return.”
