PLANS for the third phase of a housing development on the outskirts of Ormiston has been lodged with East Lothian Council.

Walker Group (Scotland) Ltd has unveiled plans for 59 homes at the site, between Limeylands Road and Tynemount Road.

Already proposals for 19 and 37 homes to the east of the site have been given the green light by the local authority.

Similarly, a new medical centre has already been built at the heart of the development.

However, those are not the only plans for the village.

Plans submitted 12 months ago by Dr David Slight and Barratt David Wilson Homes for a site to the north of Limeylands Road were rejected by the local authority.

That is currently being appealed to the Scottish Government.

Jim Blane, chairman of the village’s community council, told the Courier: “There is not any great concern [about the Tynemount Road plans].

“The community council feel this is a more suitable site to satisfy the needs locally and housing needs in general.

“It finishes off that area neatly and it is where the new surgery is – it is land that has not been farmed for years. The other site is currently lying with plants in it.” Mr Blane felt giving the other site the green light could set off “a massive development” around the northern side of the village.

He added: “We know what we are getting [with Tynemount Road], it cannot go anywhere else.

“We know what the finished product is going to look like but the other area could be like a pack of dominoes – you don’t where it is going to land.” Work on the housing development at Tynemount Road is yet to get under way, with an application for affordable housing on the site yet to be submitted. Mr Blane was keen to see the Tynemount Road schemes get the green light and for construction work to begin.
