Dunbar Lifeboat's rescue of boy who fell from rocks to feature on BBC

Emergency services were called out in June last year to help the youngster, who fell near an area known as Johnston’s Hole at the back of the harbour wall.

The rescue features in the ninth series of popular show Saving Lives at Sea, on BBC Two and iPlayer.

Dunbar RNLI was joined by Coastguard teams from Dunbar and North Berwick, as well as firefighters from Dunbar and East Linton, paramedics and police officers.

Crews were launched at about 5.35pm and the youngster was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service crew within 40 minutes.

The latest series of Saving Lives at Sea comes in the wake of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) marking 200 years of lifesaving.

Tuesday’s episode is the fourth time that Dunbar volunteers have featured on the popular series.

Alan Blair, helm of the Dunbar lifeboat crew featured in the forthcoming episode, said: “It’s great to be able to showcase the work we do on TV like this, and allow the public to see how their generous donations help us to save lives.”

Filming took place over the past year, with lifeboat crews and lifeguards carrying special cameras and welcoming film-makers into their day-to-day life.

Rescues from the RNLI’s archives are also revisited, and viewers get a glimpse into the everyday lives of the thousands of men and women who give up their time to save lives.

Saving Lives at Sea is broadcast at 8pm on Tuesdays on BBC Two and iPlayer.
