AN EXHIBITION celebrating the 10th anniversary of the John Muir Way closes its doors this weekend.

‘City Slickers in a Smart Countryside’ pays homage to the route which connects Muir’s home town of Dunbar to Helensburgh on Scotland’s west coast.

Inspired by a September 2022 cycling trip from Falkirk along the coast to Dunbar, the photographs taken by Sharon McMenemy Khan offer views seen along the route, capturing the natural wonder of Scotland prized by Muir.

Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council spokesperson for environment, economic development and tourism, encouraged people to head along to John Muir’s Birthplace on Dunbar High Street before the exhibition closes on Sunday.

He said: “What a fantastic time to visit the wonderful John Muir’s Birthplace and learn more about the man and how he took his early inspiration from the Dunbar area.

“It’s great to see that his legacy continues to inspire and I hope this exhibition of Sharon’s stunning photographs encourages more people to make their way along the John Muir Way, spend some time enjoying East Lothian, and learn more about one of our most famous sons.”

The John Muir Way was opened on April 21, 2014, by Scotland’s then First Minister Alex Salmond.

It is estimated that between 240,000 and 300,000 people use at least a section of the 134-mile path each year.
