SIXTEEN nights of roadworks will force drivers heading west off of the A1 next month.

Carriageway improvements totalling 5.3-kilometres over two sites near East Linton are planned for between May 7 and 24.

The westbound carriageway of the A1 will be renewed on sections near the Tyne Bridge and then west of Monksmuir.

Work will take place between 7.30pm and 6am each night, except for the nights of May 11 and 12.

The westbound A1 will be closed at Thistly Cross Roundabout while work is taking place, with a diversion route signposted via the A199 to Abbotsview Junction, at Haddington, adding about four minutes and 0.1 miles onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank road users and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.

"We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot, or on X at @trafficscotland.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
