MEMBERS of the public are being encouraged to draw up a wishlist for a village park.

East Lothian Council has secured funding to enhance the sport and play facilities at Memorial Park, Gullane, next to the village primary school.

Now a public consultation has been opened to enable people to offer their ideas for what could be improved.

Among the questions in a short survey is which “play items” – such as outdoor musical play equipment, flying fox, play panels with moving parts and floor-based board games – people would like to see in the park.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The goal for this project is to create an environment within Gullane that is not only safe, enjoyable and accessible, but that has been developed via community collaboration and that will ensure we optimise the funds allocated.”

The consultation, which opened on Monday, runs until April 26.

The enhanced play area would feature seating and bins, as well as “inclusive and accessible rubber safety surfacing on the ground”.

The aim is to provide a wide range of “new play experiences” for a range of ages and abilities.

The spokesperson added: “The purpose of a sport and recreation consultation is to assess community needs and enhance sport and recreation services. This consultation ensures sport and recreation facilities meet current and future community needs, are safe and accessible, and encourage widespread participation.”
