PLANS for a national chain, which has more than 900 branches across the UK, to move into the remaining unit at Haddington Retail Park have been revealed.

The retail park, on the town’s western edge, is home to The Food Warehouse, Home Bargains, Aldi, Costa Coffee and a petrol station.

Now, they could soon be joined by Specsavers in the remaining unit, which was previously earmarked for a pharmacy.

An application for an illuminated sign – and a separate application for the installation of air conditioning condenser units – is being weighed up by East Lothian Council.

The local authority’s planning department is expected to make a decision by the end of May.

Drawings included with the application show how the opticians would be laid out.

A floorplan features consultation rooms and a diagnostics area, as well as an office and staff room.

Currently, there is a Specsavers branch in Musselburgh.
