RETRACING the steps of prisoners who were marched 90 miles south following the Battle of Dunbar has been highlighted in a talk.
Megan Olshefski, a Fulbright Scholar from America researching archaeology for her PhD at Durham University, followed in the footsteps of the estimated 4,000 Scottish prisoners following the battle in 1650.
Miss Olshefski described to the Friends of the John Gray Centre how she retraced the whole 90 miles on foot, camping overnight as close as possible to the original stops of the soldiers.
Upwards of 1,600 survived the imprisonment and 150 of the fittest were sent as forced labourers to New England.
