Mr Donald, who had been minister at the church for nearly a decade, made the decision to retire last year after previously leading congregations in Edinburgh’s Wester Hailes, Aberdeen, East Wemyss and also Kincardine.

The Rev Dr Robin Hill, of Longniddry Parish Church, has been serving as interim moderator of Prestongrange Parish Church until a new minister is chosen.

He said that the process for selecting a new minister was “well under way and proceeding smoothly”.

'More suitable'

A Church of Scotland spokesman said: “The manse at East Loan, Prestonpans, is a large, older building.

“The decision was taken to sell the manse with a view to purchasing a more appropriate building for future use which will be more energy efficient and more suitable for a modern family.

“This is in keeping with a call from the General Assembly for congregations to become more environmentally and economically sustainable.

“The purchase of the new manse will take place before a new minister is called to the parish, but the Presbytery of Lothian has begun the process of calling a successor to Rev Kenneth Donald.”

Offers are being invited for the manse, which includes a living area, kitchen and separate dining space, and four bedrooms.

The home also features two bathroom suites in addition to a separate toilet on the ground floor.

A driveway is included at the front of the property, while there is also a garden space.

Viewings can be arranged by appointment with the Church of Scotland Law Department, which can be contacted via email at properties@churchofscotland.org.uk

Offers are invited and should be submitted to the church law department in writing.

All offers will be considered by one or more church committees.
